Thunderstorms and heavy rains Tuesday night closed multiple roads and caused flood warnings for rivers in Fond du Lac and Sheboygan counties.

The National Weather Service issued a statement around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday that said the South Branch Rock River at Waupun and the Sheboygan River at Sheboygan are more than a foot above flood levels.

Waupun officials said that as of 6 a.m. Wednesday flooding closed the Fond du Lac Street Bridge, River Road, Gateway Drive, West Lincoln Street from Pattee Drive to Rens Way and the intersection of Shaler Drive and East Lincoln Street.

East Spring Street from River Road west to the community center is open, but there is water on the road, officials said.

Weather service officials said the Sheboygan River flooding closed Woodland Road between Rio Road and Willow Road, as well as a section of Alpine Road near the Sheboygan Airport. Parts of River Park in Sheboygan Falls and Esslinger Park in Sheboygan are also flooded, officials said.

The South Branch Rock River flood warning will remain in effect until it falls below flood stages. The Sheboygan River flood warning will extend until Friday afternoon, officials said.

Weather service officials said most other rivers in east-central Wisconsin will continue to rise with some experiencing minor to moderate flooding. Shoreline areas of Lake Michigan facing the northeast may also experience lakeshore flooding and erosion due to brisk northeast winds and high wave action.
