Up to 3 inches of snow could fall in northeast and central Wisconsin Friday afternoon into Saturday morning.

March will start out snowy and frigid in central and northeast Wisconsin.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until midnight Friday. Between 2 and 4 inches of snow is expected to fall, according to the National Weather Service in Ashwaubenon.

Roads could be snow-covered and slippery Friday during the evening commute — but with temperatures in the upper 20s and low 30s, it will likely be the warmest day for a while, the Weather Service predicted.

Wind chills then will dip well below zero over the weekend. By late Saturday night, wind chills could be between minus 20 below to minus 30.

The forecast Sunday through Tuesday is not more promising: wind chills could reach as low as minus 35.

There’s a chance the cold weather could break daily cold records as the winter progresses into March.

Green Bay approached record total snowfall for the month of February, missing a record set in 1890 by 2 inches. According to the Weather Service, 28.2 inches of snow fell in February in Green Bay.
