After manure runoff near towns of Calumet, Brothertown, DNR asks residents to check well water

FOND DU LAC - A manure runoff into streams in Fond du Lac and Calumet counties has prompted authorities to ask residents to check their well water.

The manure runoff entered streams in the towns of Calumet and Brothertown, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. It was first reported Jan. 29 near Artesia Beach Road and U.S. 151 in Calumetville.

Loron Bock Farm, which the DNR said is responsible for the runoff, is working to clean it up. DNR staff have been monitoring cleanup efforts and taking water samples.

Residents near the farm should monitor their well water for changes in taste, smell and color. If residents notice changes, they should switch to an alternate water source and call the emergency DNR hotline: (800) 943-0003.
