In Nebraska negotiated cash trade was slow on light demand. Compared to Wednesday live FOB purchases traded 2.00 higher at 170.00, a light test was noted. The most recent delivered purchases were Wednesday from 267.00-268.00, a light test was noted. In the Western Cornbelt negotiated cash trade was slow on light demand. Compared to last the week live FOB purchases traded 1.00 to 2.00 lower from 167.00-169.00. While dressed purchases traded 1.00-3.00 lower mostly at 267.00. The Central region price range and mostly price series for dry whey were unchanged this week. Contacts report inventories of dry whey remain tight and some say they have few or no spot loads available through the end of the year. Meanwhile, demand has ebbed slightly this week as some manufacturers say they have received fewer calls from spot purchasers this week. Central region cheesemakers are running steady production schedules, leaving plenty of liquid whey available for drying. Despite this, dry whey production is limited. Animal feed whey prices were unchanged this week.

CHEESE: Barrels closed at $1.4500 and 40# blocks at $1.5200. The weekly average for barrels is $1.5010 (-0.0770) and blocks, $1.5740 (-0.0235).

CHEESE HIGHLIGHTS: Spot milk demand remains strong in the Eastern states. Plant contacts report robust production schedules with inventories growing week over week. Retail demand is strong ahead of end of year holidays. Contacts note mozzarella and cheddar demands are especially strong. Cheesemakers in the Midwest report ample milk availability, with Class III spot milk prices ranging from $4-under to $1-over. Production schedules remain steady. Demand for cheese barrels has softened.

BUTTER HIGHLIGHTS: Cream is mixed this week. Stakeholders in the west region report some improvement in cream volumes and spot load availability. Stakeholders in the east and central regions indicate cream supplies are tightening and somewhat available. Retail butter production schedules are strong to steady, and some butter makers have more comfortable December retail inventory levels than others. Some stakeholders indicate bulk butter and unsalted butter spot loads are tight. Domestic demand is strong to steady. Bulk butter overages range from 3 to 8 cents above market, across all regions.

FLUID MILK HIGHLIGHTS: In the East and Central regions, milk production is trending higher. IContacts in the Central region and in the Northeast report strengthening milk components as feed quality remains high. Milk demands are Class dependent and range from steady to strengthening in the East and West regions. In the Central region, contacts report spot loads of Class III milk are trading from $4 under to $1 over. Demand for condensed skim is steady in the West, and contacts in the Central region note condensed skim availability is increasing. Cream multiple ranges for all Classes are: 1.07-1.28 in the East, 1.18-1.26 in the Midwest.
